This year staff have decided to put more emphasis on oral communication and public speaking (like Speech Board for those that remember it) and move away from more traditional speeches. Being able to confidently and articulately get your point across when speaking in front of people is really important and a great life long skill. 

We encourage parents to carefully read information that comes home from teachers around how you can best help your children with these tasks – writing down information for your child to read is NOT the best way to tackle this. 

See below for the basic overview of what each class / year group will be doing. More detailed information will come home via class teachers.  

Year 1 & 2 Poem Recite a short poem, using some expression and actions.  This could be a favourite poem, a recently learned nursery rhyme etc.

Show and Tell  Bring along an item to share (eg favourite toy) and explain why it is important to them, where they got it from, what they do with it etc.  This could be for about 2 minutes.
Year 3 & 4 Poem Recite a poem, using some expression and actions.  This could be a favourite poem but must be 3-5 versus long. (this may be as a group or individual)

Show and Tell We will pop images of photos to share on a slide about an experience that you would like to share – eg a holiday, going hunting, a sports game. About 2-3 minutes
Year 5 & 6  Personal Presentation Share a presentation with the class about something important to you that you know a lot about. You may like to bring items to show or photos or pictures. This is NOT a written speech.  It needs to be around 3 minutes long. 

Poem  Recite a group poem, using some expression and actions.  This could be a favourite poem.
Year 7 & 8 Personal Presentation Share a presentation with the class about something important to you. You may like to bring items to show or photos or pictures. This is NOT a written speech, it is a talk about something you know lots about. It needs to be around 3 minutes long.
