PREP!

This is on twice a week and it is all go!
Great to see Annette and Owen and Claire and Bernice and Debra and Roselyn in helping the kids with their enterprises.

Rachel has been into school and been working with teachers. This is linked to our ICTPD contract.

May 17th
Jones Cup was a great day on Monday the 17th of May. A huge thanks to the PTA. They worked all day!
Lovely food it was too.

All the kids really did well. We won three of the Cups. Our coaches were awesome again. Thank you to all the coaches!
Many thanks again to the referees and umpires who make the day possible. Cathy does a lot of work to!

Paul came to work with the two school basketball teams on Friday the 21st. This was also the day of the epic battle between the two teams. The gold won 14 to 10! There is great value in putting two evenly matched teams in the competition, rather than one strong and one weak! Congratulations to both teams, and their coaches!

Market Day
We had a very successful market day. It was held on Friday the 27th of May. A really neat concert prepared by Room 2 started the afternoon off and after that it was all on in the bull ring. Lots of great products to buy and a very high quality too. A particularly good market day. Great to see our parents at school too. What is Prep about?

Trip to Auckland
Richard was away from school on Monday and Tuesday 1st and 2nd of June. I was in Auckland visiting three schools as part of the ICTPD contract. Awesome. W eeally had a good look around and was so impressed by some of the amazing things going on at Viscount School! After their literacy and numeracy they have inquiry..... No croweded curriculum.....
Our staff have had a good look at action learning, following Gywn Gwiths model. it is similar.. What appears different is the whole school into it at one time and the complete belief that it is the very best thing for their children!

We're going to the Zoo
Both Room 1 and Room 2 went to the Brookland Zoo and to Pukekura Park on Wednesday the 9th of June. It was a great day with loads of parent support. Thank you! We have a link to the pix in the gallery. Plus if you come to school lots more photos on the intranet.

Clowning Around?
Room 1 have been learning all about clowns! They put on a neat concert for us at our assembly.
Again loads of good photos on the intranet and a few in the gallery! Check out Room 1 too.

Newspapers and Investigations
Room 3 and 5 have been involved in a big job. We are part of a NZ wide competition organised by the NZ Herald. Both classes are putting together their own newspaper. It has 12 pages, which is working out about one a week. Loads of IT as you can imagine...
Plus a big focus in Room 5 is the Methanex Mathematics Investigations.... These are due in NP on Monday the 21st, so the pressure is coming on!

Methanex Mathematics Investigations
Congratulations to Laura and Izaak for winning the Year 7 group investigation! Their investigation was: What malkes a shape tesselate? Using Fireworks, they designed and made their own tesselations! Pretty clever really. Well done!
But there is more. Woodrow and Scott were placed second with their investigation of maths in the work place. Well done Wood and Scott. Woody and Scott's investigation answered the queston What Mathematics is involved in a Paper Run?
But there is more. All other entires bar one, were distinguished with a merit certificate.

Ngaere Sports Exchange
We had Nagaere School here on Friday the 25th of June. There were four great games played and congratulations to all on the excellent spirit shown.
Toko girls senior netaball team had a very positive win.
The boys played their heart out too. The score on the Board was a draw at full time!
The Year 5 and 6 girls were beaten, but really played very well.
Year 5 and 6 boys managed a convincing wein. Well done to all. Plus the speeches and food was great too. We really enjoyed Ngaere School visit.

Market Day
Well another excellent Market Day has come and gone. This time we improved the exchange rate for dollars to 'squids'... As a result we raised $250! All businesses did pretty well. Some paid off their start up loans! The quality of the goods was high. Room 2 put on an excellent little concert! Congratulations Room 2 and Miss Hobby! PREP evaluations by the children showed an over whelming like of the program. Staff have been thinking about the length of PREP and next year we just might finish after the first MArket Day.. This will still make it six or seven weeks in length.

Term 2 came to a close on Friday the 2nd of July.
