During the swimming season (Running concurrently) we will all be involved in an art unit with a different focus in each room. A presentation of class art at the end of the unit at assembly and classroom walls looking full of children's art early in the school year. |

The Sea
Physical Education |
An integrated school wide unit beginning around week 4 or 5, with a focus on the oceans .Teachers will have planned the theme together and then each taken a different aspect. All classes have will have an inquiry base using the rich ICT based environment they have at their disposal. In addition it needs to have a science content from the living world! The development of a knowledge base about an aspect of oceans is a key consideration in addition to any inquiry process! A feedback sheet During term 1 morning fitness organised by Kelly and Friday afternoon sports developing more skills related activities.... so using the new words more physical education versus physical activity. |

Every Monday throughout
the term teachers, including 4 "relievers" will be taking an extension
group in
an area of expertise for the teacher and either talent or interest for
the children. This
is a significant component of the school term. Check out
more details here This
will run for the entire term and will be organised late in term 1. We did this in 2005... But would love to see it really grow into something special. TIME will be needed for children to form groups and show us their talents!!! Children performing plays, dance , singing, playing instruments in self initiated groups... Maybe in 2007 we have class finals which whittle a few away?????? prior to inviting parents in to a final! Judges, categories, prizes etc |

Oral Language
Methanex Mathematics Yr 5 to 8. |
NZ Speech Board Exams We completed this in 2003 and 2004, and 2005 and 2006. I believe this has had very positive results with children's oral language developing and their confidence developing too. Please note that staff have a new syllabus and
this should be read !! A very clear link with
the school charter outlining
oral language as the basis of all other learning! We
are maintaining
this
initiative in 2007 at a cost of over $2000 and hope have received
EDI funds to ensure the continuation. |
