Oral Language

A school wide focus. Weeks 4, 5 and 6 with exams in week 7....We completed this in 2003 and 2004, and 2005. We believe this has had very positive results with children's oral language developing and their confidence developing too. A very clear link with the school charter outlining oral language as the basis of all other learning! We are maintaining this initiative in 2006 and hope to receive funding from EDI application to fund it as well.

It is held at the end of each year for children from Year 5 and up (if they are ready for it) and it is assessed by the teacher on some points key criteria and learning intentions, but self assessment is an integral component of this unit. At the end of the year a significant amount of time is used in the development of the end of year concert. Year 7 and 8 take on the majority of the "acting", however, dance and movement, and singing is a large part of the preparation as well.
